Halloween/Fall cont. (10/27-11/4)

 Holidays is such a fun time to have preschool!  Here's a look at our last two weeks 😀

Halloween/Fall activities

  • At their request, we had some fun with baking soda, vinegar, and plastic spiders.
  • For a special treat before our Halloween party, we watched Room on the Broom and ate our snacks in front of the tv. 
  • We had our party!  Thank you for coming! I wish I'd gotten a picture of them all in their costumes!  I can't believe I forgot to pose them for one!





  • We tried coloring leaves made of special paper. I've done this in past years and they've turned out really vibrant and beautiful. I think we used too much water and too big of droppers this year, so the colors were very muted.  But they still enjoyed it.





  • We made "ooblek" and painted pumpkins with it.





Literacy

  • We read The Biggest Pumpkin Ever, Froggy Picks a Pumpkin, and a few books we had already read that they wanted to read again.
  • We built CVC words with a kit I have.
  • I've started asking the kids some questions to get them talking more and expand their vocabulary.  It's great for Benji, who is bilingual, and the other kids enjoy getting to draw and answer questions too.

Math

  • We did puzzles.




  • We did coutning, patterns, subtraction, addition, and sorting with ice cream cones and different colors of ice cream scoops.

Fine Motor Skills

  • We played with magnets.





  • We colored wooden turkeys.
  • We did some name writing worksheets.

Other

  • We did music time every day to practice our songs for the party.  We also did some songs following along on youtube.
  • They had a lot of fun building upstairs lately.  Dinosaurs that snap together, wooden blocks, and magnet blocks mostly.




  • We had some beautiful weather for playing outside.

Valentines and Bubbles (2/2-2/16)

 We've had a fun couple of weeks!  Here's a look at what we've been doing. Valentines Day Activities The kids decorated foam hearts. They decorated posterboard hearts with tissue paper squares. They made their own craft inventions with Valentines odds and ends. The kids decorated sugar cookies, decorated boxes to hold valentines, and exchanged valentines. Bubbles Activities The kids played with bubbles and all kinds of bubble makers outside. Literacy Activities We read Snowmen at Christmas, Love Monster, and Fly Guy Meets Fly Girl.  We've been working on sight words again.  We've introduced some new words and are reviewing them every day and playing a game with them next week. They played with alphabet robots. We watched Letter Factory while they ate their snack. Math Activities We talked about patterns and odds and evens with our calendar.  Also they love to take turns counting with the calendar. Mother's Day and Misc (4/13-5/6)

 We've had a fun and productive couple of weeks!!  I'm so pleased with how well they are all learning and getting along.  Here's a look at what we've been doing. Mother's Day and Misc Activities The kids experimented with mixing oil and colored water using syringes and eye droppers. We made the kids' Mother's Day presents. Literacy Activities The kids did some amazing reading the last few weeks!!! We made sentences out of their sight words and read a number of different sentences with them.  We also practiced sounding our three letter words and reading them in sentences with our sight words.  We've repeated this several times, along with practicing our sight words with flashcards and a game. The kids put together lower case letter puzzles. We practiced building and reading CVC words. First Two Weeks of School

We got a late start this year because of the pandemic, but things are going strong!  First, here are their cute first day of school photos: Benji--  Miles-  Ridge- And Tess-  Here's an overview of what the kids were up to the first two weeks:  Literacy- I wasn't sure how much the kids would remember of the letters and letter sounds, but it became clear pretty quickly that they remember everything really well!  We reviewed a little and I realized they were ready to move on! Spell/sound out CVC words (consonant short vowel consonant- the easiest to first learn) reading- Oliver and the Alligator.  Llama Llama Misses Mama.  Elephant and Piggie: I Need a Nap!  The Pigeon Has To Go To School.
