Halloween cont. (10/20-10/22)

Here's a look at our second week of Halloween fun :)  Halloween Activities * We had a lot of fun with some Halloween science.  I froze ice cubes in Halloween molds.  Some had baking soda added to them, and some had plastic spiders frozen in them.  I gave the kids squeeze bottles of warm water, squeeze bottles of vinegar, scoops, and eye droppers. They explored for a while until the ice cubes were melted.  Then we had some fun with some bigger reactions with baking soda and vinegar. * We've been practicing some Halloween songs. Some of the kids asked to sing it by themselves, so I got some videos. * The kids played with playdoh and Halloween cookie cutters. * We played Halloween tic tac toe. * The kids decorated foam pumpkins. Literacy * We read some fun books this week: The Pigeon Has to Go To School, Monster Trouble, Time to Harvest (nonfiction), and Bedtime for Monsters. * The kids worked on reading with their second sight word (like).  We also did a litt...

Halloween theme (10/13-10/15)

 This was a fun week as we started incorporating some Halloween activities into our learning. Halloween Activities * The kids made paper strip pumpkins.  This was good practice for their scissor skills. *We started learning/reviewing some Halloween songs. *The kids colored, wrote, decorated with stickers, and drew in blank Halloween books. (Tess thought it was funny to make that face 😏 Literacy * We read some Halloween books and some other fun books.  Don't Push the Button is one of their favorites from last year, and they've been requesting it for days.  We also read Peppa's Windy Fall Day. * I started introducing sight words.  I'll send out a video about this soon.  Our sight word for this week was "I."  We will add on next week. * They practiced making CVC words again. Math * Along with our usual calendar work, we are helping the kids who can't yet to count to 20. Fine Motor Skills * The kids played with very sticky slime. * Halloween sensory bins ...

First Two Weeks of School

We got a late start this year because of the pandemic, but things are going strong!  First, here are their cute first day of school photos: Benji--  Miles-  Ridge- And Tess-  Here's an overview of what the kids were up to the first two weeks:  Literacy- I wasn't sure how much the kids would remember of the letters and letter sounds, but it became clear pretty quickly that they remember everything really well!  We reviewed a little and I realized they were ready to move on! Spell/sound out CVC words (consonant short vowel consonant- the easiest to first learn) reading- Oliver and the Alligator.  Llama Llama Misses Mama.  Elephant and Piggie: I Need a Nap!  The Pigeon Has To Go To School. Alphabet locks- matching lower case to capital letters (also good for fine motor skills- fitting keys in the locks the right way and turning the keys) Fine Motor Skills- Snap cubes Mad Matter Color first day of school crowns Playdoh Sensory Sand and excavating...
