Mother's Day and Misc (4/13-5/6)

We've had a fun and productive couple of weeks!!  I'm so pleased with how well they are all learning and getting along.  Here's a look at what we've been doing.

Mother's Day and Misc Activities

  • The kids experimented with mixing oil and colored water using syringes and eye droppers.

  • We made the kids' Mother's Day presents.

Literacy Activities

  • The kids did some amazing reading the last few weeks!!! We made sentences out of their sight words and read a number of different sentences with them.  We also practiced sounding our three letter words and reading them in sentences with our sight words.  We've repeated this several times, along with practicing our sight words with flashcards and a game.

  • The kids put together lower case letter puzzles.

  • We practiced building and reading CVC words.

  • We read The Butterfly Who Could, The Case of the Missing Chalk Drawings, and Hop on Pop (talked about rhyming).
  • The kids played with the alphabet locks and keys where they have to match lower case and capitals to find matches (plus use fine motor skills to use the keys in the locks).

  • The kids put together puzzles that match capitals and lower case.
  • The kids played with the alphabet robots (also great for fine motor skills).

Math Activities

  • We figured out which numbers were missing on our calendar that was partially filled.
  • We made a bar graph with the kids ages and talked about how to read it.
  • We learned about and counted things with tally marks.
  • The kids played with the counting ice cream cones, where the cones have a number and they put that many scoops on them.
  • They count their stickers constantly and naturally do math to find out how many more stickers they need to have ten and get a prize.

Fine Motor Skills Activities

  • We did a great writing activity.  I gave the kids sandpaper letters and numbers and let them trace them with their fingers.  Then they practiced writing the letters and numbers on whiteboards.  We kept track of how many letters or numbers they were able to write and gave a prize after every five.

  • The kids practiced tracing in their tracing workbooks.
  • The kids drew on our big water wow mat and in smaller water wow books.

  • The kids played with sensory sand.

Other

  • We did music time.
  • We had popsicles outside.
  • Show and Tell followed by playing mini golf with Mile's toy set outside.

  • We played Sleeping Dinosaurs.
  • The kids played with water squirters outside.
  • We had a birthday party for one of Tess's stuffed animals with the stuffed animals the other kids brought being the guests.

  • Field trip to the splash pad!!

I can't believe it will be only a few weeks until this year is over.  This fun little group has been so much fun and I am so grateful for them!
