Mother's Day and Misc (4/13-5/6)

 We've had a fun and productive couple of weeks!!  I'm so pleased with how well they are all learning and getting along.  Here's a look at what we've been doing. Mother's Day and Misc Activities The kids experimented with mixing oil and colored water using syringes and eye droppers. We made the kids' Mother's Day presents. Literacy Activities The kids did some amazing reading the last few weeks!!! We made sentences out of their sight words and read a number of different sentences with them.  We also practiced sounding our three letter words and reading them in sentences with our sight words.  We've repeated this several times, along with practicing our sight words with flashcards and a game. The kids put together lower case letter puzzles. We practiced building and reading CVC words. Easter and Spring (3/23-4/8)

 We have been busy the last month!!  Here's a look at what we've been up to! Easter and Spring Activities The kids did bunny puzzles. We did a spin art activity where we used a salad spinner to spin paint onto egg cut outs. The kids built structures for their peeps with playdoh, jelly beans, and toothpicks. The kids decorated paper eggs. The kids decorated paper bags for an egg hunt, then had an egg hunt (which involved a lot of counting to make sure they got the right number of eggs). The kids decorated a big egg with paper strips. The kids colored Spring and Easter themed bookmarks. We experimented with "egg volcanoes"- eggs, dye, baking soda, and vinegar. They made a spring flower art project with muffin cups. Literacy Activities The kids used letter blocks and cards to build letter shapes. The kids played with and spelled things with lower case letter magnets. We practiced reading CVC words. We practiced our sight words. We read My Book With No Pictures, Penguins ...

Ocean Animals and St. Patrick's Day (2/18-3/18)

 We have been busy the last few weeks!  Here is what we've done as we've studied Ocean Animals and St. Patrick's Day.  Ocean Animal Activities The kids explored a variety of shells, sand dollars, and starfish with magnifying glasses and tweezers. The kids painted ocean animal pictures with paint dot markers. We made necklaces with the kids' favorite shells. We made our own soft playdoh and played with it, ocean animal cookie cutters, and plastic ocean animals and plants. The kids decorated wooden ocean animals and cardboard ocean animals. The kids played with plastic ocean animals in sensory sand. We put together a giant ocean puzzle (twice!). St. Patrick's Day Activities We did rainbow "smoosh painting"--we put paint on the back of a paper plate, smooshed another paper plate against it, and pressed it onto paper.  We also did rainbow finger-painting.
